JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Strategy will lead and drive the development and implementation of a comprehensive Strategy for the organization. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of energy management, sustainability, and the ability to collaborate across departments to achieve measurable results. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in developing and executing strategic initiatives focused on optimizing energy consumption and reducing environmental impact. The Director of Strategy will be responsible for the oversight and development of responses for client requests and opportunities in the form of but not limited to; Requests for Information (RFIs)/ Requests for Proposal (RFPs) and support energy program modeling.   Experience with energy methods and procedures, technical understanding, documentation skills and familiarity with utility demand side management (i.e., DSM) and conservation programs is desired. This position will involve research in utility and energy efficiency programs, proposal content and formal presentation creation, representing SEEL on organizations, and leading business development efforts. 
 
The Director of Strategy analyzes and recommends emerging industry trends, expansion opportunities, including competitive threats, viability of outside business partners, venture capital sources, internal business performance and business process improvement. As part of the leadership team at SEEL, the Director of Strategy will manage and develop the strategy team, as well as team members from other departments.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as an advisor to the business leaders and influence their thinking and approach, including influencing strategic decision making from an enterprise point of view, through externally informed insights
  • Responsible for thoroughly understanding the full array of SEEL products and services in order to effectively represent SEEL to our clients or potential clients during the bid and proposal process
  • Guides and prepares the organization with key information and direction on business opportunities
  • Utilizes knowledge of competitors to identify opportunities for SEEL
  • Supports and assists the leadership team to present to internal and external Executive Management teams
  • Oversees, identifies, and analyzes Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Quotes (RFQs), ID/IQ Task Orders, and Requests for Information (RFIs)
  • Responsible for proposal content formatting and visual quality check of all graphic components of complex proposal documents within Microsoft Word. Includes creation of any client requested supporting documentation and/or forms
  • Assists in the development of the 3-5 year business plan and annual strategy budget  
  • Tracks business development opportunities through the CRM 
  • Represents SEEL on Michigan and national organizations/mentorships 
  • Attend conferences to network and understand current industry standards
  • Foster collaboration and development strong relationships with cross-functional teams.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including government agencies, industry partners, and NGOs, to build partnerships and support for energy efficiency initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in business, engineering, or environmental science
  • 3+ years’ experience in energy efficiency, demand side management (DSM) or similar. 
  • 2 years of leadership or management experience required
  • Creative approaches to problem solving, opportunity assessment and strategy development
  • Strong business acumen and analytical skills - knowledge of financial reporting preferred
  • Highly skilled in process flows, and process improvement
  • Experience in a commercial proposal writing/development capacity in a fast-paced, dynamic corporate environment
  • Knowledge of national, regional and local energy efficiency initiatives
  • Experience in marketing campaigns, preparation of proposal packets, ability to research energy efficiency needs for the organization
  • Strong detail orientation, analytical and general business skills
  • Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines, and flexibility to change priorities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Visio)
  • Experience with working with Customer Relationship Management Software
  • Ability to work well independently, manage time effectively, be self‐directed and to write original content, as well as refine and compile information from appropriate boilerplate and technical documents
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to work closely with a diverse group of sales and technical experts
  • Ability to travel 30%-40%
  • Ability to pass company vetting requirements
