Job Description
Staff Engineer:
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Staff Engineer will be working within the Energy Waste Reduction and Energy efficiency business sector. The candidate will utilize their experience in energy to provide assistance with methods, procedures, technical understanding, documentation skills and familiarity with utility demand side management (i.e., DSM) and conservation programs to achieve various goals and objectives. The Staff Engineer will report to the operations department and will work to create and refine energy program models, staffing plans, and budgets in tandem with internal subject matter experts and external consultants. This person will create draft versions of customer response content for management and technical review; compiles and evaluates team feedback and will work to reconcile all internal feedback. This person will also interface with subject matter experts—as well as contacts in engineering, sales, finance, legal, and business development to gather key information as needed. The Staff Engineer will represent and articulate the entire range of SEEL’s operational services and programs in order to partner with customers and understand and respond to their present and future needs in development of an overall customer strategy and plan. This position will involve networking with potential clients, attending relevant conferences, researching business opportunities, and creating proposal content and formal presentation material. Compensation: $57K-$75K (depending on experience)
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Standardize and maintain operational field procedures
- Develop and maintain continuous improvement processes
- Refine and manage company internal EM&V process
- Represent SEEL at local, state, regional, and national networking events, conferences, workshops, etc., with the purpose of finding/establishing solid networking opportunities upon which to build.
- Work with Business Development, Strategy and Launch Teams to ensure operational best practices are incorporated and vetted.
- Develop a credible working relationship with new contacts and maintain the same with current ones. Integrates energy research from internal tools and technical resources (such as the MEMD) to create a library of savings and cost models in a template basis.
- Support the energy management system as part of the SEEL Corporate Sustainability Plan Analyze Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Quotes (RFQs), ID/IQ Task Orders, and Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Responsible for thoroughly understanding the full array of SEEL products and services to represent SEEL fully and effectively to our clients or potential clients during the bid and proposal process.
- As needed, proofreads and edits proposal text and other authors for proper grammar, spelling, comprehension, and style. Also proofreads and edits existing project summaries and resumes of project personnel, and other supporting materials.
- Work with business and building owners, plant or building management personnel, engineers, and contractors to provide energy efficiency assistance and recommendations in participating energy efficiency or energy conservation programs
- Perform building walkthrough(s) to identify and provide documentation and quantification of on-site opportunities for energy efficiency in commercial and/or industrial buildings provide follow-up as required to the customers
- Participate in QA/QC and internal audit activities. Participate in Energy Modeling with Finance and other functional departments Incorporate knowledge of technical standards including BPI, RESNET HERS, AEE, ASHRAE, ICC and electrification into program designs and refinement efforts Prepare and present reports and presentations
- Discuss technical elements of energy consuming equipment in a facility (lighting, HVAC, hot water systems, envelope, integrated design) and how it affects utility consumption and demand, to help build a business case to prioritize recommendations and how they affect savings and first cost
- Enter data into spreadsheets and databases to determine energy savings and to manage current projects, collaborate with other Energy Advisors/Energy Engineers as required to maximize technical support to the client base Analyze and monitor reporting of data
- Serve as a technical resource for Energy Advisors/support team
- Ensure compliance with all quality and safety policies as well as all OSHA regulations SKILLS/ABILITIES • Strong detail orientation, analytical and general business skills • Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines, and flexibility to change priorities • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Visio)
- Experience with working with Customer Relationship Management Software
- Ability to work well independently, manage time effectively, be self‐directed and to write original content, as well as refine and compile information from appropriate boilerplate and technical documents.
- Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to work closely with a diverse group of sales and technical experts
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in business, engineering, engineering technology, natural resources, or environmental science.
- 3+ years’ experience in energy efficiency, demand side management (DSM) or similar.
- A solid knowledge of energy efficiency technologies and practices, required.
- Experience in a commercial proposal writing/development capacity in a fast-paced, dynamic corporate environment.
- Knowledge of national, regional, and local energy efficiency initiatives.
- Highly-polished communication skills—written and oral
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Experience or understanding of energy efficiency program issues and the regulatory environment for utility clients, and capacity to understand and evaluate specific energy efficiency program messaging.
- Experience and proficiency in Microsoft Excel with the ability to complete advanced tasks.
- Ability to develop and deliver excellent client-facing presentations.
